Default My Stronic just shifted at 8000 rpm

I had the car is D/automatic mode and dynamic. I floored it from a standstill and the engine revved right through the redline in 1st gear and shifted into 2nd at 8000 rpm. The tach was buried before I could back off of the gas. I am still stunned. The car seems to be driving ok. It is a brand new 2011 S4 with 870 miles on it. Obviously I am not following Audis break in procedure. Any ideas??

I thought the redline on the DSG was set at 7k. Shouldn't the rev limiter have kicked in? BTW, it is highly unlikely that you did any damage to the engine. So here's a thought. For all those that are squeamish for taking their engine to the redline during the break in process, nothing bad happens when you run the engine to the redline during the first 1000 miles. Not afterwards either. Your engine went above redline and it is still running fine and i believe will continue to do so. My concerns are about why no rev limiter cut out.

Up until today my transmission has shifted at 7000 rpm or just under when using full throttle. Just this once it went right up to 7900-8000, basically at the end of the tachs range! Hopefully it will be ok.

Look into 'kick down'. In your manual...

I have had mine shift at 7300RPM varified on my vagcom log but never near 8K.... You didn't do any damage though, IMO.... Enjoy the car.... Oh I was beating on mine from day 1 and don't have any issues.... later Ron

I would not want that to happen after an ECU tune, then have engine issues.

It's hard to take it easy. I completely understand.

Not only is it hard, it is totally unnecessary. Not advising revving to 8K, but 7k will nor hurt anything as long as the car is at normal operating temp.

And to add to that, get the lap timer/oil temp VAG-COM update so you'll know when the engine is up to temperature. 110C (230F) is fully warmed-up.

It was in auto shift mode and for it to get to 8000 before shifting there must have been an issue w/rev limiter (fuel cutoff?) and transmission shift program. MadMadS4 not sure what kickdown would have to do with it, this was from a dead stop in 1st gear and it went to 8000 instead of shifting into 2nd at 7000.
