I've never seen temps that high on mine. 335i routinely ran between 240 and 250F. 225f is the highest I have seen. But I have to confess drive araound and constantly onitor the oil temp. Water temp goes to the middle of the quage very quickly and then never moves regardless of oil temp.

Obviously I am not following Audis break in procedure. Any ideas??
I have the same problem, been having it for about 4 months now. On hard Acceleration the car will keep going up to 8k and sit there for 3 or 4 seconds enough time to let me sit and figure out if I somehow kicked it into neutral or 'manual' mode. Ive been back and forth with the dealer almost since I bought it. they said that is how it is supposed to operate.....

They also told me that the S-tronic may take up to 2 seconds to disengage a gear and re-engage the next. or that it may be the Tach needle "carrying the momentum forward from the engine which causes it to keep moving past the red line, even though the engine speed is still at 7k" Ive talked to a few other audi Dealers and all of them say thats "bull****"

Any ideas? or similar issues?

Since my original post it has happened a couple of other times. The dealer is baffled. I have stopped worrying about it and will keep driving it (hard)- if it breaks it will get repaired under warranty.

This has nothing to do with the engine. The needle itself doesn't stop and keeps going until 8k. It's happened to me before and I am 100% sure that it is a needle malfunction and nothing to do with the engine actually revving to 8k.

I am inclined to believe this. It has happened to me once and when it happened, the needle went up past the redline but the sound of the engine did not change.

There is an easy way to check this out if you can replicate 8000 RPM. If you have a VAG (VCDS), log RPM (G35) and check to how high actual RPM goes. If actual RPM does not go to 8K, then gauge problem as has been stated earlier in this thread.
