It is official, Audi has confirmed during a progress event in Colorado last month that the 2013 S4 models with s-tronic transmissions have the Crown Gear differential:

There was no reference to "Crown Gear" in the US or Canadian sites in the S4 specifications (just say "Self-locking center differential "), however "Crown Gear" is mentioned in the S5 specifications: "Crown gear (S tronic® dual-clutch transmission) / Self-locking (manual transmission)"

It's been mentioned in the reviews of the 2013 S4 and Audi has confirmed this to people individually when they've emailed them.

No better than the torsen, except for the 5lb weight reduction, which is pretty insignificant in a car with seats that weigh 150lb.
I don't want a center differential that biases torque around. I want it to lock and send an equal amount of power to both axles. This is how the Evo X ACD and Subaru DCCD works.
Then again, that doesn't make for a sexy sales pitch as 'from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip', does it?
