Lets put it this way.

If great cars don't keep getting quicker, cleaner and more efficient... Something is seriously wrong.

Enthusiasts shouldn't have to be gluttons.

As another poster pointed out, you seem to view the world in black and white. Choosing a car is a compromise between many different factors, of which one for me is fuel economy. If you don't value this, fine. Just don't project your views on the rest of us with a characterization that we're some kind of tree-hugging extremists.

Today, I own two "relatively" expensive cars, both with V8s. A $100/month extra for gas is insignificant when compared to $2800/month in car payments. That said, fuel economy and carbon footprint will be major factors in my next purchase, because I think I get it now. Why get crappy mileage and spew out excess greenhouse gases if you don't need to? Fun doesn't need to be wasteful. I like the trends we are starting to see in the performance/luxury market.
