Default Oil change question

I only use my S4 over the winter months (October to March). The car is asking for an oil change within the next 1500 km (I'm up to about 23,000 km).

Should I take it to the dealership now or wait until I take it out in the fall?

There's a couple ways to approach that question. First, it's really bad for your car to let it sit from April to October without being driven. But second, it you are actually just going to let it sit and never drive it, it's going to need an oil change after sitting anyhow (in which case you would wait until October).

I would always change the oil right before storage. Any contaminants should be flushed out before you store it to give the engine the best possible environment for storage. If you can at least start the engine every 2 weeks and let idle or take for a short drive would be great. If not...then put the battery on a trickle charger (batteries plus sells great ones) and you should be just fine. My Corvette is 13 years old. It has 40,000 miles on it and it never gets driven for about 5 months of the year. I rarely start it in the winter (which I know, I'm not following my own advice). I keep the battery on a trickle charger. The week of my last drive I change the oil and top off fluids. The car does not burn any oil and I never have any trouble starting it in the spring.

You should be fine if you can follow something close to this.
