Default Oil dipstick in 201 S4

I have trouble getting measurements of the oil level other than full. I think I better get a dipstick. How much are they? Can you install yourself?

Why not just trust that it's full?

Hey, wait. Is this some kind of trick question? NWS4GUY, can you help me with this one?

Does anybody have a picture/diagram of where the "plug" is that needs to be removed so that this oil dipstick can be installed?

Thanks

This is so basic...you can't miss it. If you are standing at the front of the car facing the windshield it's just below the valve gear on the right hand side fo the engine.

It is a very simple plug you pull out and then replace that with the new dip stick. I think it was black.

Is there any possible downside to using a dipstick? Seems odd that it's not in the car to start with.

My 2003 MB C32 does not have a dipstick. This is a trend and Audi is catching up on this trend.

As it stands, the computer keeps an eye on my oil level.

Car is under warranty.

Time to enter 2010 guys... not sure why some of you don't trust the computer, but it's a brand new car, so if something goes wrong at this point, who cares? The Car info screen tells you the level of the oil, I can't imagine it's lying to you.

Now, once the warranty expires, then yes, I may be a little more gun shy...

Exactly, ...it's a bit like relying on a 'gas tank' dipstick - but we rely on the fuel gauge right;-)
