Default Ouch.. No love from Consumer Reports...

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/26/2...bility-scores/

Given all the drama with the BMWs HPFP and this weeks recall, you can see from the ratings how BMWs reliability has suffered.

Considering the A6 3.0T is rated as the worst Audi model, it makes me wonder how much the water pump issues have impacted the overall reliability score.

In fairness, Audi was whacked really hard by the Q7 (Q5? The small SUV), and my 2011 S4 was delivered with a rattle that would keep a baby entertained. They are complex cars, but they sometimes fail on the simple bits.

Audi does do the finishing bits really well too, but I consider the inability to stay in Mix (shuffle) mode, or to start the Nav in map mode, or to keep the radio on the Presets screen, to be defects also. With features come expectations.

Consumer Reports is a joke if you're a car enthusiast. Their idealistic car is called a bicycle - cheap, little maintenance, and high mpg. Performance, looks, handling, etc. apparently do not factor in.

Any car Consumer Reports would rate highly is unlikely to be interesting to drive or own. At one time,
Toyota & Lexus were exactly aligned to Consumer Reports target audience & rating optimum - totally boring.

Can't entirely agree. I drove a G35 for a number of years, and while it's no S4, it was fun to drive and very easy to live with. And BTW, isn't Porsche #2 on the CR list? LOVE my Audi, but being low on this list can't be a good thing...

As I posted on the thread in the Azine chatterbox on this, you cannot compare the S4 and A6, they are totally different platforms and chassis (B8 versus C6) they really only share the same powerplant, and the bulk of the car's reliability was overall not just the engine.
