Default Picking Up 2012 S4 Tomorrow (First Audi)

Hello Everyone,

Great to meet you all!

Just posting to introduce myself - I am picking up my first Audi tomorrow... (only driven GM previously)

2012 S4 with the following specs:

2012 S4 3.0 TFSI S-Tronic quattro Premium
Phantom Black Pearl Effect Paint
Black Styling Package (Trim... ie: little to no chrome)
Navi with Backup Camera
B/O Sound System
Carbon Atlas Tim
19" Titanium Colour Wheels
Audi Quattro Sport Differential
Tinted Black Windows all around
Stoneguard
Roof Rack for Ski / Snowboard Gear (remove when not using ).

I picked up some snow tires and rims for winter at Tires 23 (Mississauga):

Elbrus I06 Black Machined 18x8 5x112 +35 Rims
Michelin Pilot Alpine PA3 245/40/18's

Future Mods I am looking at (ECU Flash after break-in period of 20,000km's or so):

INTAKE (looking for opinions... what about Stratmosphere instead of AWE? I like keeping stock airbox...):

AWE TUNING 3.0T S-FLO INTAKE SYSTEM
3.0T S-Flo Intake System in Black
Filter Cleaning Kit

EXHAUST (what about Milltek with Resonated Downpipes (which downpipes do I get with 034's no longer recommended?)):

B8 S4 Exhaust System - Diamond Black Tips
B8 S4 Resonated Downpipes

GIAC PROGRAMMING FOR - THE 2012 - 2010 B8 S4 ® / S5 ® 3.0T (should I go with APR Tune? It allows for the Pulley Replacement Later On...?)

http://www.pfafftuning.com/Products/...9/Default.aspx

INTERIOR BOOST GAUGE KIT:

B8 S4/S5 3.0T Vent Mounted Gauge Kit

http://www.awe-tuning.com/products/a...gauge-kit.html

Let me know your thoughts... just the car upgrade is amazing (coming from GM product... ugh), can't wait to start working on this beast .

Hopefully I can join up to some local meets this year around the GTA... I see seinsmeld13, petrashevsky, and TO407S4 are locals.
Local Folks: Any suggestions on good local places for parts, accessories, and labour (I am looking at Pfaff in Woodbridge)?

Any comments, suggestions or criticisms are greatly appreciated... I am completely new to Audi, modding, and sports cars in general (n00b).

Again, it's great to meet you all, I look forward to posting with all of you.

Thanks!

Best Regards,

dg6464

Congrats on the new ride! You will soon be making up any kind of excuse just to drive. I only have 1570 miles on the OD, so I'm waiting to get the RSC exhaust system and ECU flash from APR. Injen has an intake now if you haven't seen it already too.

welcome! great to see another local S4.
H2Sports in Georgetown seems to be popular and are known as Audi specialists.
JRP in Mississauga sell Audi parts but don't usually provide labour (with the exception of Revo flashes for which they are the only dealer in Canada).
I'm sure other local guys can recommend more places.
See you around.

Welcome and Congrats. You will find the S4 and ENORMOUS upgrade from GM cars. As a word of advice, check out this break in info:

You get one and only one opportunity to break in your engine, then you live with the consequences. Following the manufacturers recommendations, MIGHT actually get the piston rings seated completely. But it might not. If you want to insure that your piston rings will seat quickly and completely, you need to take a more aggressive approach. I do not advocate driving it like you stole it, but IMHO, that technique is better than the easy break in advocated by the Manufacturer. Those who have tried my(motoman's) recommendations KNOW it works. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm. No one who has used the technique has had engine problems or ended up with an engine that consumed appreciable oil(all engines consume small quantities of oil). Many have thanked me for my recommendations. I challenge anyone to find a report on the Internet or anywhere else that shows engine problems or other issues reported from those that have used the technique. What you will find is that your car will perform very well and consume very little if any oil. So here's how to do it.

First and foremost, make sure the engine is up to normal operating temps. 2-3 times a day, NO MORE, (until you get to 1K miles) accelerate the car WOT to the red line, lift off the accelerator and allow the car to engine brake back to normal cruising rpms IN GEAR. I assure you that nothing unusual will occur once you reach the red line. In fact you can accelerate just shy of the red line if you are squeamish, but the car has already been run up to the red line at the factory. Do not do this drag race style from a dead stop. 1st, second or 3rd gear all work fine based on road condition and speed limits. WOT below the redline at will, followed by engine braking. No back to back WOT runs to the red line. After 1k miles, anything goes.

But why should you listen to me rather than Audi. Because Audi doesn't care if your car BURNS oil. They have arbitrarily set the standard for excessive oil consumption so high that they will almost never have a warranty claim. At 1 qt/1200 miles as being "within acceptable limits", you would add 10 qts of oil in 12k miles and still not be considered excessive. Pure Audi BS.

@dg6464 welcome to the club and I look forward to hopefully meeting you in the near future. I purchased my car from Pfaff and had Pfaff tuning did my STaSiS tune. The guys there are outstanding but I do have the Audi Care package. (Well worth the money) I'm looking at getting the extended Audi Care before my 80k is up.

If your looking at keeping your stock air box than the APR system might be right for you. APR Carbonio Intake

I have the stage I & II intake and love it. I can hear the supercharger wine and it isn't to the point where my wife complains =) Looks great under the hood as well. PM me and I'll happily email you the contact I dealt with at Pfaff tuning. They are more expensive but much more accommodating.

Read through DrGP's suggested break in techniques. There have been several controversial threads on break ins but I know one thing for sure. I never need to top up my oil before service 36k and counting. I did the same hard break in that he suggests.

Well I guess I can help you out with most of this list as I have the strat intake, Milltek Res Exhaust, APR stage 2 tune w/pulley, and I even have the 034 motorsports HFC's. I guess the only thing I can't help with is the boost gauge... sorry!

I'm sure I will hit the drag strip (TMP) in early April and your more then welcome to join the group and see what your car can do before you start modding just PM me your info.

Cheers,

David

Thanks Audi461! I love it man, this thing is amazing.
You are correct... I am just making up excuses to drive now.

In the past 3 weeks I have put on 3000km already... it's been a fun ride.

Let me know how the exhaust and ECU flash go - I will take a peak at the Injen intake... unfortunately choices are a bit more limited in Canada though.

Best Regards,
