So, driving to work this morning and it was like 50 degrees and sunny so, having only owned the car 2 weeks and never having used the sun roof, I decided to get some fresh air.
Opened the sunroof and once it was opened the dash beeped and flashed a message saying "Please change key battery". Odd I thought so...I closed the sunroof. Again, "Please change key battery". Tried it a few more times and every time the roof either opened or closed, same message.
I'm happy to change the battery (matter of fact I already did) but, I'm perplexed as to why opening/closing the sunroof would make the car decide that the battery in the key fob needs changing.

No clue why that happened, but that message comes up when the car detects the signal level is too low possibly caused by a low battery. Battery voltage needs to be at 3.0V minimum.

Maybe the operation of the sunroof is one of several things programmed into the controller to trigger the controller to poll the keyfob battery status. They probably didn't want to pick triggers that happen every time you drive (no need for such frequent checks), and also need several different infrequent triggers to cover for the fact that some people never use the sunroof.

Well your key fob can control your sunroof and windows so it is possible that the controller reaches out and verifies the battery level on you key fob =/ Just a guess..

Heh...I thought the exact same thing. I expect the electricals in my TR6 to misbehave in strange and unusual ways, it is after all possessed by the prince of darkness but I wasn't expecting that from my Audi.
