I don't have a radar detector right now, but am considering one. Would the Passport be a better choice then since my car has the driver assist?

To the OP, I would try switching your config to Prestige trim rather than premium; it will be less after all those options u put on.

I'd definitely recommend the Passport 9500ix. While it doesn't have the extreme sensitivity and locator arrows of the V1, it does have a lot of other advantages. Extreme sensitivity means lots of false alarms. Unless you drive well over the speed limit all the time, I feel the Passport provides 99% of the protection without the CONSTANT false alarms. The GPS lockout feature also works great. After a few days of training I now have absolutely no false alarms on my drive to work or around town, yet have always been alerted to an active police radar. It has a great red light and speed camera database that is constantly updated. And most important for us - no interference with Side Assist!

I deactivated K-Band to the rear on my older V1 and that stopped the falsing. I don't expect that will cause any problems for legitimate speed radar either.

Thanks for the info! Now ... what's the major difference between the 9500i and the 9500ix? The "i" is older right? But what else?

I think the biggest difference is the 9500ix adds the speed camera and red light camera databases to the detector, as well as the ability to update those databases via a PC. A pretty useful feature - and I'm not sure if Escort still sells the 9500i.

Default Disable POP on the Valentine 1

See the following link for the method to disable the POP feature in the V1:
http://www.eabjr.com/Side-Assist-and...r-Detector.php

It's the side assist that interferes with the radar detector - not the parking assist. Not to get too dep into the Valentine 1 versus Passport wars, but rest assured that the V1 works great in cars with side assist (after you disable POP), and I recommend it.

How did you manage to do this?

This page lists all of the things you can change on your V1, depending on which version you have, and how to do it.

How to reprogram V1
