yeah, and that brings another point into the discussion: It seems that the launch control on stock B8s is at too low an RPM for a really effective launch, while the tuned cars jump up in RPM but the clutch doesn't grab as hard.

As good a job as Audi does making the stability control on their cars non-intrustive but effective, it really is strange how intrusive the nannies on the DSGs are.

My perfect DSG:

1. Shifts on its own when in D (or S, or whatever) with selectable ADS programming appropriate for the the level of driving aggression desired
2. Manual mode operates like a true manual mode, and will only shift in an attempt to keep the car from stalling. The kickdown switch would be non-functional in manual mode.
3. ADS Programming would affect shift speed and firmness only. Paddles (or lever) and stall-prevention programming would control everything else
4. Launch control would allow the user to rev to redline if desired, but with the disclaimer that it is logged internally and if the transmission grenades it is covered under warranty.

All that said, I have launch control on my 6MT too. It's my left and right feet .

Manual here. I have had so many manual transmissions (including a 1937 Chevrolet Master with first gear down-and-in) that my left foot slams the big brake pedal when I attempt an auto.

How about one of each?

Skipped the 6MT because it's not a real manual. I mean, why in the world would I want that synchromesh POS? I feel like I lose the connection with the car if I don't have to double clutch and match engine and gear rpm manually. If the transmission is going to synchronize gears for me, it might a well shift them too...

I'll tell you what's incredible...for a platform that is only really 2 model years old plus a few 2012 guys, there are 100 respondants to this poll already. That's nuts.

When I did that B6/7 mileage poll, the platform was 6 years old, and I'm pretty sure it took longer than 2 days to get to 100 votes.

This car must be selling like crazy.

Hey, I still double clutch and rev-match my downshifts!

Manual. The S4 is a fun car, a man-toy. Stickshift is part of that. And it makes a statement. And it's fun.

Mostly has to do with the price. Here in Canada, B6/7 S4 were going for more than $80K out the door and now the exchange rate is on par and the MSRP is almost the same as US. Also, Audi adjusted the market segment for the B8 S4 to compete with 335i/xi, rather than the M3 where the B6/7 S4 used to compete in.

As for the S-tronic, it's more performance oriented over the old tiptronic on B6/7, I'm not surprised that more people choose it over 6MT.

To heck with "Vorsprung Durch Technik", the S4 ads should read "the Audi S4 with DSG...its the car that farts!"
