Default S4 or CTS V

I'm still in the market for a car and am still leaning towards a S4. The other car that keeps popping into my head is the CTS V. Any thoughts or experiences?

I drove the CTS-V coupe and sedan at Monticello Motor Club two summers ago. Performance wise, the car is a beast. But IMO the interior quality of the S4 blows it away IMO. I do not care for the exterior styling of the Cadillac, but that is very subjective.

From my point of view, I could not see dropping 15-20K more for a CTS-V if my other option was an S4. And if I have a budget in the mid-70K territory, I'm looking at Porsches, not Cadillacs.

Thanks for the quick response. I am looking either car being CPO ed so they are actually in the same price range since the Caddy looses so much value at first.

Loaded 2011 CTS V - $47k

Loaded 2012 S4 - $47k

Mileage? Did you check service and warranty records on both? Length of cpo warranty on both?

Caddy is RWD; S4 is AWD. MPG is abysmal for the CTS-V. Caddy has lots of HP and TQ, but drives very much like a big heavy car.

Although I am looking at 2 specific cars, this is the range that they both sell for. Buying the CTS V CPO'ed evens the cost out. I have no problem letting someone else take the hit (Caddy's sticker was $71k).

Gas mileage means nothing to me as I put about 4,000 miles on a car a year.

I do love AWD but living in NJ means the S4 will still need two sets of tires anyway. There is also a good chance that I ll pick up a cheap used SUV and only take the other car out on nice days.

I am kind of in the same boat...2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 or 2009-2011 Cadillac CTS-V or 2010-2012 S4. Being that I drive 15-20K per year and I live in northern Idaho where we have snow 4-6 months out of the year I am going to go with the S4.

I owned a 2010 S4 and a 2012 CTS-V wagon (6spd with recaros)

What would you like to know? They're really quite a bit different.

When it was all said and done, the S4 was better overall, but the CTS-V was superior in some aspects... S4 is a way better car to live with daily however. CTS-V pushes it over the top but not always in a good way.

Oh, and I averaged 12mpg CTS-V... my 997 Turbo gets 18 driving the same commute/etc for comparison.

I'll have to pm you for more details since you've owned both. Thanks

Hearsay I know, but I've heard only bad things about the CTS-V's interior quality. Rattles and the like.

It's not as good as Audis.. but it's not that bad. It did creak a little after only 5k miles, but I also drive on some pretty awful roads around here.

I even had the panoramic sunroof, which people have said had issues, but mine did not.
