I ended up with the Orvis rear seat cover referred to in this thread.
All I can say is that thing ROCKS! Seriously. I have it in my Allraod and plan on transferring it to my new S4 when it arrives. I take my Chocolate lab hiking a few days a week as well as out and about and the Orvis cover handles it all.
It clips around the rear headrests and drapes down the seatbacks. The bottom is cushioned and then there is another section that drapes down to the floor and then some! It is made out of a microfiber like material and Maddie(my lab) loves it. She jumps up and paws at it like its her bed and immediately gets comfy and chills for the duration.
This past weekend I took her on a 7 mile hike in the rain with some friends, who also brought there dog. Needless to say at the end of 7 miles both dogs were soaked an covered in mud. The cover got mud all over it and wet. It is water resistant and there was not even a hint of dampness on the leather when I returned home and took the cover out. Tossed it in the wash for a quick wash on cold then into the dryer and it came out looking brand new.
Best $80 I ever spent on something like this! They make a whole line of these things for your home too. For couches, chair throws, bed covers etc.
Highly recommended!

For the B7, I have an Audi seat cover and it works great. Covers the entire back and seating area of the back seats, and even goes down to the carpet. It's as tough as nails as well.
I think I paid like $60 for it (dealer) or something?
It says Audi - Truth in Engineering on it, which I find kind of aggressive for a pet cover, but hey.

I'm reasonably sure that this will work with your B8...or that Audi makes a B8 cover.

The towels's just there to protect the seats from the straps on the 'hammock' which loops from the rear to front headrests, covering everything between. On my B7 I didn't use a towel, but because the straps pull on leather in the B8 (rather than the headrest poles in the B7) I thought a little extra protection was warranted.
