My hypothesis is this - it boils down to the seat finish:

Those with Alcantara feel the seat gets too hot above 5 and those with Nappa feel it doesn't get hot enough.

Put me in the bucket, it doesn't get hot enough. I could fry an egg on the seats of my B7 A4 above 5. My S4 feels like the med setting on a heating pad when it is on 6.

Cheers.
I have all Nappa seats, and mine get plenty hot.

Silk Nappa and I can't stand more than 3. (My wife however always turns it up to 6).

'11 Nappa. Warm, slow.

But that's because my point of comparison is my wife's BMW X3. As has already been noted, those heaters heat up incredibly fast (20 seconds to reach full temp) and get really hot at their max. There are occasionally reports of them burning through the leather, so maybe warm and slow is best.

Better than my '00 S4 though.

Yeah, not very warm IMO. My son's GTI will cook your butt, my old 545i would make you sweat.

I have Nappa leather and found that it's not as hot as my former Acura. Initially, it gets hot and than cools down to warm as you continue to use the seats on longer drives. But, it's all relative as my SO finds the seat hot at 6 and keeps it normally around 4/5.

This is strange. I'm going to give the passenger seat a try and report my findings.
