Default Service in 900 miles or 241 days?

How does this make sense? The car thinks I will drive only 900 miles in the next 8 months when I've been averaging 1000 miles per month?

Service in 900 miles or 241 days. Whichever comes first.

I get that, but my point was that the two timelines aren't even in the same ballpark. Given that the car has a computer, shouldn't it be able to calculate that I average 1000 miles per month and therefore estimate that 900 miles would come in approximately 30 days rather than 241 days?

Give HAL some slack. If it only displayed "Service in 900 miles" someone would post a complaint asking why it didn't tell them there are 241 days to go.

Service is based on mileage, or in days. So, it is not based on how much you have driven, but on a fix number of 365 days. The service reminder gets reset and you get 10,000 more miles, and start back at 365 days again. Last service you performed was approx. 124 days ago.

FWIW if you have access to a VAG-COM aka VCDS you can reset the indicator to any number of miles and days you want. I set mine to 5000 miles and 90 days. (Technically the setting in VCDS is in km but you get the idea.)
