Default Should I buy 2011 S4 Titanium w/ 8k miles for $51k or order new 2013?

The subject says it all but I wanted to get everybody's thoughts.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a mint condition 2011 S4 Prestige, Titanium, Dual-Clutch w/ 8900 miles ($51k) and was contemplating whether ordering a new 2013 would be a better decision. (FYI, I drive a lot for work - 30k miles/yr+)

cons to 2013:
- $10-$13k more expensive than 2011 (wife doesn't like that)
- I'd have to wait to get the car (i can wait for what i want though)
- no titanium option (not that big of deal really)

pros to 2013
- new styling and new tech options (new headlights are neat)
- would be the first car i've ever ordered

cons to 2011:
- already 2yrs old
- somebody already "broke it in" (who knows if they did it correctly)

pros to 2011
- low miles
- lower price than ordering new 2013 S4
- completely spec'd out except for Adaptive Cruise

Why would a 2013 be $11-13k more expensive? Would you get a 2013 Prestige and put nearly every single option on it and pay full MSRP?

I ordered a 2013 so I'm probably biased, but I'd build out a 2012 (since there's no pricing yet for a 2013) and see how much it will cost equipped exactly how you want it vs. the 2011 you're looking at now.

Well, you bring up a good point. Yes, if I ordered a 2013 it would be similarly spec'd out as the 2011 I'm looking at buying. In other words, Prestige with all options except Adaptive Cruise package. So it begs the question, how much off the $63k MSRP would a dealer come off a 2013 price?

I vote to wait for the 2013.
- Better looking inside and out
- Better exhaust note
- Better tech

Have you looked at the US order guide for the 2013 yet? They've grouped the options a little differently. Adaptive cruise is now bundled with dynamic steering. Something perhaps of note... An equivalently optioned 2013 is cheaper than a 2012 in Canada. US pricing hasn't been announced, so it's unclear if that might happen for the US as well.

On your last question, that is largely a function of geographic region (where you're planning to buy). In some parts of the country close to MSRP is a realistic price. In other parts of the country $500 over invoice is a realistic price. Also, you may qualify for additional discounts (Audi loyalty or the like) on a new Audi that should factor into your decision if applicable.

Many dealers will do 5%. I used a supplier discount and just did 6%

You will probably be better off buying new. As long as you can find a dealer that is willing to discount to $500-1000 over invoice.

probably ~60k give or take. Don't forget sales tax if you have it on car purchases in your state. That added around $3500 for my purchase.

Need to look at the details of the 2011, does it have every option at that price? Are you going to order every option for 2013? I don't think Titanium is on the list for 2013.

From the USA build your own;
2012 Audi S4 Price $ 65,300
Prestige with seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic® $ 55,400
Exterior 0C0C Monsoon Gray Metallic $ 475
N1U Silk Nappa leather upholstery
PDR Audi drive select w/ Sports differential $ 3,950
PQC Titanium package $ 1,000
8T4 Audi adaptive cruise control $ 2,100
N1U Silk Nappa leather upholstery $ 1,000
3Y5 Sun shades $ 500
Destination charge $ 875

Based on the 2012 numbers. I'd probably be paying $62k for a 2013 the way I would spec it out. With that in mind I'm leaning towards 2011 at $10k cheaper.

I guess my next step is to ask the dealer how many launches the car has logged and whether the TSB regarding the sport differential has been addressed.
