Yea, I always thought that it was just a characteristic of this car... (like the vibrating steering when you accelerate slowly and have the wheel turned, or the "hit by a truck" sensation after coming to a stop when stuck in heavy traffic for a while). =)

This only happens to me when the engine is cold. Once it warms up it goes away for me.

I noticed this, typically when leaving a parking spot with wheel turned fully over. Almost feels like drive train/4 wheel binding like my Explorer does if you have it in 4WD mode on hard pavement and turn hard and slow. I thought it might be related to the Quattro system. Its very minor compared to how the Explorer does it. I had been wondering if I should mention it to the dealer, but if its "normal", maybe not.

I would guess the surging may be the car blipping the throttle to rev match as it is downshifting to the next lowest gear? Just a guess as I've never really noticed it with my DSG. Then again this is my second car with DSG so I may just be used to it.....

I had a MKV GTI DSG prior to this, I don't recall the GTI ever doing this though. Maybe it has something to do with adapting to the way we drive, hence some people have it, some people don't?

I haven't noticed any surging. Few things I've noticed are the vibrating steering wheel when accelerating n turning slowly, when shifting from 1st to 2nd at low rpm with paddle shifts its almost like a clunk and not smooth (only happens on cold start) and that if you accelerate slowly from a stop it can be very jerky
