I read in some test drive review that the adaptive suspension that comes with the Audi Drive Select feature is bit lower than the stock suspension without adjustable dampers. Can anyone verify this?

If you live in areas with bad roads I suggest you get the adjustable suspension. My area has a lot of potholes and without it set on "comfort" my suspension would bottom out too easily. With it set on comfort though it's not a problem. The ride is still tight enough even on comfort, it's not a Town Car.

What is the difference between comfort mode and the non-adjusted suspension? Is comfort mode "softer" than the non-adjustable suspension - i am trying to figure this out, as I live in the tri-state area and commute, and would like the option to dial down the suspension.
thanks

It's not as simple as "No".
Now I'm talking Europe here but this is how it works here :
Stock car i.e. basic trim packages have standard suspension
S-Line Cars come as standard with Sports Suspension which is a 20mm drop from standard.
There's a free option on S-Line cars to have S-Line Suspension which gives a 30mm drop.
Dynamic Suspension ride height is the same as Sport Suspension i.e. 20mm drop from standard.
Dynamic Suspension :
Comfort Mode is softer that Sports Suspension. I don't know if it's software than Standard.
Dynamic Mode is harder than Sports and S-Line Suspension.
Remember all modes also adapt according to the conditions.
The S4 has the Sports Suspension.
You can not mix Dynamic with S-line Suspension.

Since this is the S4 forum for the B8 Audi, one would assume, that the op was referring to an S4.
The S4 comes with the sport suspension as default. The ADS is an option and has the same height.

This. Ride hieght and ADS are mutually independent things. The setting changes adjust the way the dampeners respond to the road, comfort allows for a softer ride with the dampeners opening more to allow more suspension travel, dynamic allows less travel for less body roll, but a harder ride - the hieght doesn't change.
