Are there any major changes planned for the 2014 model?

0 chance the B9 is released this year. Not even a concept has been shown at the auto shows yet.

Recently there was reference made to a competition package for the A5. It looks very similar to the former Ti pkg. I wonder if this would be available for the MY14 S4 as well.

If available for the S4, it would be worth it to me to wait.

Headlights and tail lights, minor tweaks don't constitute "major" changes. They only run each model production on a 4 year cycle. 2010, '11, '12 and '13 make 4 years. This is why I said LATE 2013. I know this true as I said I have family works for them. I get an employee plan. We were planning a trip to Europe and were told we could take a European delivery during the time I was over there, since late January 2014 is when we'll be there.
There will definitely be some significant updates to this car; not just tail lights or new headlamps.

You're wrong. B8 S4 was 2010-2012, A4 was 2009-2012. They just did the "mid-cycle" refresh this year. It would be a huge waste of money doing that if they were only running it for 1 year. We will be able to know in 2 months since they will be taking orders for 2014's pretty soon. You would think they would advertise a model revision before taking orders though?

Ok... You have to delete your account when you are proven wrong. It's only a matter of time. Having family work at a dealership doesn't get you insider information. Unless they work for the design team they wouldn't have a clue when new models are going to be released.
First of all the B9 is going to be a completely different car. They would be advertising the **** out of it if it was coming so soon. At this time last year they put more effort into advertising the changes for the B8.5 facelift models.
Second of all they will most likely release the updated A4 model a year before the S4 is available. Considering they haven't done any advertising of updates for a completely different car and they will available for order in less than 2 months. I am going to say that the 2014's will be identical to the 2013's except for possibly a titanium package.
The model year 2015's (available in 2014) could be the B9's which would be followed in 2016 available in (2015) by the B9 S4.

I am about to place a special order for an MT6 , probably get my order in by the end of March, making estimated delivery end of June/start of July When does Audi transition to the 2014 model? I would rather catch a 2014 model with a Ti package?

If I were you, would wait until you can order the MY14's. Heck, if I was thinking of ordering now, I would wait.
