Default Tire Question

Is there risk to stretching tires if I were to have summer/winter tires changed twice a year? I figure over the lease life I will have changed each 5-6 times.

Might actually be easier and as economically to buy some inexpensive winter /summer rims. Every time you mount/dismount tires you put your rims at risk for damage. Much less likely if you have a shop that uses the Hunter GSP equipment.

Mounting and balancing costs about $80 at my local tire shop using the Hunter system. Factoring in that you can get some decent replicas for under $1000 and then resell them for 1/2 their original cost if still in good condition. Most either go all season or summer tires (where the weather never gets bad) OR a dedicated summer /winter set of wheels and tires.

Thanks DrGP. I was hoping to keep the stock wheels and just change tires but looks like I will need to get a dedicated set of wheels and tires.

I have been shopping now for about 3 weeks and it seems that a decent set of 18" all seasons with wheels will run around
$1200-$1500 depending on how discriminating your tastes. The threads should be easy to search using the word tires or wheels.

I picked up 4 General G max AS 03 19" tires for $920, including tax, mounted and balanced with Hunter GSP sysem and disposal of old tires. You should do better with 18S.

Are you including the wheels in this quote? I am talking both tires, wheels and hunter balancing is inclusive.

Also, need to pick your brain with "Hard Break In" style if you don't mind via PM. The logic is sound but seems to be geared (pun intended) to a MT and want to make sure I get it right first time out with an AT.

Thanks EE

No wheels in that price. And btw, I don't advocate a hard break in. I would call the Motoman technique agressive but controlled break in.
