Default In-transit: tracking your S4 from Germany

I have to say thanks to member cha777 for writing up this very helpful how-to (in the A5/S5/RS5 forum) for tracking your car's journey across the Atlantic ocean: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...php?p=24172737.

After (finally) getting updated dates from my SA today (just asked him to copy/paste from the system) and referencing VW's shipping schedule, I know that my S4 is on the Camellia Ace RIGHT NOW, ready to depart tomorrow and arrive in Houston Sept. 2nd! Also got my VIN.

From here, I went to:
-Vessel Tracker and signed up for email notifications for the ship's location, ETA, etc (after creating a free account)
-Digital Seas because they seem to provide more detailed info, such as scheduled departure date and hours in port (free account req'd)
-Marine Traffic for mapping and details & pictures of the ship

Here are my milestones so far:

Order Entry 06/20/2011
Marked Sold Order 06/29/2011
Vehicle Assigned 06/20/2011
Release to Manuf. 06/21/2011
Release for Production 07/21/2011
Factory Inspected 08/04/2011
Departure Port Arrived 08/05/2011
Ship Loaded 08/16/2011
Port Arrived 09/02/2011
Rel. to Carrier (Port) 09/07/2011
Dealer Delivered 09/13/2011

Hope this helps those waiting... In the meantime, I can't stop learning from those who already have it...thank you!

edit: my car was delivered on 9/13, picked her up on 9/15 and I love that machine to death. updated actual dates above. good luck!

Thanks for the tip.

It's really ironic that Domino's Pizza allows you to track your $9 Pizza from the time it goes to the oven until it gets boxed. And you can't do the same for a $50K - $65K car.

Especially when you can do so with their biggest competitor, BMW.

I bet whether you track it or just wait patiently for it to arrive it takes the EXACT same amount of time and you get the car in the EXACT same timeline.

Unless you have a dealer that does not like selling cars and they get your car in and just decide to keep it.

No, incorrect. After a few days of ordering the car, my dealer said the timeline was revised and is now 2.5 weeks late. Unless it starts production now, there's going to be delays.

Read the post on the Ti package, where the delays are longer.

Anything can happen along the supply chain (like parts not being available) or logistics and will cause delays to happen.

Darn! My dealer just told me that it's delayed another week from 10/10 --> moved to 10/17.

I wish they would delay mine till spring. I don't want a Nov delivery.

If I new what kind of incentives they were going to have (Audi Loyalty going away?) I'd cancel my order and re order next Jan.

Geez I guess I'm far from overly excited like the rest of you!

The tracking if the fun part. On the BMW forums they are having all kinds of fun, and boat parties over there. But after we get our cars we will give 2 s**t's about all of this. lol

Um No! That's not how it works. Whatever price and incentive you agreed at the time of order will stick. I let my dealer signed a paper that they will honor the $1,500 Owner's Loyalty discount + whatever discount over that that we agreed upon, so that's not a problem at all.

The only thing that may change would be the interest rates if you borrow from Audi Finance. But interest rates always varies. It could go both ways. I'd rather have my car now before prices go up next year - because it could.

Where do you live? Mine is coming to Houston with an ETA of 10/17 also.
