I can't believe I, redrocker55, is answering a question on VAG COM... :-) I mean, I never thought I'd see the day...
So...the reason why I opened my answer like that was because probably about 2 weeks ago I felt the exact same way you do on making any changes.
First off...it's not hard and the best advice I can give you is if you are unsure of anything then back out of the program and ask someone here to get the answer.
I made several mods using VAG COM and they all took about 2 minutes each to do. It's really very simple.
Be sure to check out...www.audienthusiasts.com. Lot's of great instrux here on VAG COM for you to print off and take to the car for your VAG COM session.
I would recommend starting with something very easy like...Lap timer/oil temp or the 'efficiency mode'. These are 2 features I use EVERY TIME I drive my S4. You will enjoy them and they are super easy to do.
The video in motion was a little more involved....but if you start with the 2 I'm recommending then it will make VIM much easier.
Hope that helps some.
Good luck to you...

there is a company called Ross-Tech
they live from the cables needed to do the mods.
they developed the software to do so.
they must have sold lots of these cables, so there our a whole lot of people who have done these mods.
