Haven't had a plate for 6 years (5 in RL and 1 in A7) and never had any problems.

A few days ago I saw an awesome white A7 at NE 10th St & 106th Ave in downtown Bellevue. Not sure whether it's your car.

Ya the car didn't have a front plate neither and the chrome grille looked awesome.

Not an optimal place, though better with suction cups than just sitting in there. I think you'll get ticketed even with the plate above the dashboard here. So definitely not worth it having a potential flying blade in the car.
