I hadn't seen mention of this before, so hopefully not old news. I was using Waze on my iPhone this weekend and had the phone connected with bluetooth. When Waze issued a voice alert, it muted the stereo and played these over the MMI/audio system. This was a nice surprise, because the alerts are easy to understand and its not always easy to read the iPhone display. I wasn't aware that the bluetooth setup on the MMI/iPhone allowed for a short "burst" transmission like that.
Makes me wonder why the audio streaming is such a problem for Audi to implement. FYI Mine is a 2012 MMI 3G.
I was going to try this with Trapster too...still weighing the pros and cons of each one. Realize thats somewhat OT, but curious to hear views from others.

I've noticed that if you play a voicemail (via visual voicemail on the iPhone... no call being dialed out) while the BT is connected, then the voicemail will also play through the MMI/speakers as if you were making a call. I've been wondering the same thing as you ever since.
