What is the clock-clock-clock-clock noise when the car door or trunk is closed?

My A4 does the tick-tock-tick-tock noise at the rear as well - I read the parking brake periodically checks the tension on the drive motors - I thought that was what the sound was.
Mine seems to alternate sides - left/right and each makes the sound twice.
