ddun, I'm probably being paranoia here, (I keep asking questions!) but to confirm this is 255's w/ ET35? If so, does the amount of clearance work you mention you've had to do allow you comment about what differernce a ET40 rim would make? Might it clear the wheel housing during driving w/ 'dips' - per amount of adjustment you've had to do / had experience with?

255 ET 32
255 ET 35 will clear AFAIK, VMR run ET 35 on some wheels and noone has reported any rubbing even when lowered
ET 40 will definately clear
also the trimming I did was on the rear wheels. the fronts will clear even though it looks like it sticks out abit.
ItsDubC runs the same ET except with A5 s-line wheels, lowered on H&R OE sports, but running 245 size tires, and reports no rubbing.
245 seems to be the better solution/popular solution. my wheels/tires came together so i didnt want to spend anymore money to make it work.

on 255 rubbers, it will rub with people in car hitting a bump in the freeway on stock sport suspension height. lowered the car on coilovers and rubbed a lot more frequently. had to trim the fender liner and some tabs to get it rub free even when lowered.
looks beautiful, even more so with my matching S5 brake kit front/rear!

^Many ppl run VMR 19x8.5 et35s w/ 255/35/19 rubber and have no rubbing issues. Some are even lowered. If 19x8.5 et35s work fine, 19x8.5 et40s will most definitely work.
To add to the confusion tho, some tire brands are more prone to rubbing than others for a given size. This is because different tires have different sidewall characteristics. For example, Falkens have been reported to have very square sidewalls, which can cause rubbing in a size that Hankooks or Yokohamas for example, might be rub-free w/ their more rounded sidewalls. I was able to identify popular "fender-friendly" tires when I was tire shopping, so the info is out there.

Audi(Japan)use Bridgestone Potenza's, RE050's, who according to catalogue only seem to supply 255mm width tires for 9" width wheels, i.e. for 8.5" width wheels the widest Potenza tire is 245mm. If I stay w/Potenza's and with 19" BBS's which are at 8.5" wheel width, I don't have option of 255mm width tires.
Question : Placing priority therefore on the wheel diameter (19") V's width (255mm), is anyone running 245/40R19's on S4 B8, (with outside tyre diameter 679mm)? ....... as opposed to say std 255/35R19's with outside tyre diameter 661mm. Trying to determine is 679mm diameter going to cause any so far experienced issues.

^245/40/19s will make your speedometer and odometer off by 2.6% compared to the stock 255/35/19s. While this is still within the 3% recommended margin of difference, 245/35/19 is much closer in terms of rolling diameter and is the better choice IMHO. I have never heard of anyone running 245/40/19s on a B8 A4 or S4.
