Windshield repair or replace?

Starburst crack about 1.5in diameter, impact crater is 1/4in size. Safelite guy says it's borderline between repair/replace. Did mention the factory seal advantage of repair but said cosmetically it will not be great (white blur at least 1/4in in size). Geico rep was pushing repair option hard by spooking us w/ how bad it is to break factory seal.
Question: Is factory seal really that important or more insurance sell tactic myth? Car is 3 month old so insurance said they would be willing to pay for OEM glass if necessary. So repair with factory seal but most likely visible blemish or just get new OEM glass installed by Safelite?

I've had mixed luck with windshield replacements. I replaced one on my B6 S4 and never had a problem afterwards. On my trusty old 1995 Ford Explorer I replaced the windshield and about 2.5 years down the road the seal started coming off and making a horrible wind noise, never got fixed 100%. Finally, on my 2006 330i I had to have Safelite re-do it 3 times before they got it right. Each time there was either a whistle, small leak, and/or glue visible. I'd recommend repairing if at all possible, especially if it's not in your field of view.

I've replaced upwards of 20 windshields in my driving life, and I've never had an issue with any of them. I had to replace the S4's windshield within 2 months of having it. Around here most people do not go to the dealer to get new windshields. It was $430.

Just replaced my windshield today with Safelite Auto Glass. The guy appears to have done a nice job and the glass looks identical including the cutout for the vin# and bracket for the rain sensor. Crossing my fingers.
