Winter Tire options
Have a 2016 S4 with 19" wheels and summer slicks. I'm wondering what size wheel I should buy for my winter tires. 18" or 19"? Interestingly enough, according to tire rack a set of 18" wheels/tires isn't that much more than a set of 19" tires only. Also, ice or snow tires? Advice? I live in the great white north of Wisconsin so having the right wheels in the sled is going to be a necessity.

My suggestion sis 18" as you are in real winter...
… minus 1 sizing has the following advantages:
1. typically narrower for better bite in snow
2. Taller sidewall to better protect against rim damage from ice and potholes
You absolutely need "severe service ice and snow" tires designated by the mountain and snowflake logo (see below). Many tires her an M+S rating, but the mountain snowflake designates a true snow and ice tire.
The top sellers are all fantastic Bridgestone Blizzak, Nokian Hakkapeliitta, Michelen Alpin (sic) - al have the micro-wiping and adjustable rubber hardness as they wear.
I have purchased over a dozen sets of tires and wheels from Tire Rack - top shelf indeed.
Although I am currently an Angelino, I lived for forty years in MA, WI and MI - so I know snow. Always had a second set of tires and wheels for the winter.
