Winter tire sizes...thoughts?
I live in Alaska...while snow tires aren't always a MUST, they are a good idea, especially compared to the summer tires the S4 comes with.
Anyway, I picked up some winter tires when I purchased my 2008 VW R32. The tire size is 225/40/18. I also have a set of 18" VMR710 wheels which certainly should fit the S4.
I know the stock 18" size is 245/40, so the 225/40 would be significantly skinnier, which isn't such a bad thing when it comes to winters.
Thoughts?

The skinny (225) is ok, but it's also a bit shorter in total diameter (about 2.5%). It will work when all four are the same, but your speedo will be off and it might look slightly off (not filling the well).
It might be slightly too different for the regular spare to work, I'm not sure what the quattro tolerance is.

If I were to buy new snow tires I'd just get the 245/40R18. Just trying to save some cash.

I hope to go 17" as well, 245/45-17 or 225/50-17... But I don't think the tirerack website is not yet finalized on wheels for the b8 s4, while it spits out some results, you can get it to do silly things. Somewhere online I saw one of their employees commenting that they don't have a car to do test fits just yet. So 18" will be safer. Or we wait for people to test fit stuff...
(Btw, I'm also a cayman owner, and like the generous rubber on that car)
