How is the first oil change reminder on DIS work?

I took delivery of my new 2021 S4 on March 13th of this year. The car has 4,750 miles on the odometer and I was expecting the first oil change to come 12 months after delivery date (since I may not hit 10K miles by then at this rate), but the car is telling me I need service in 23 days. Should I do the first oil change at only around 5K miles? I paid for AudiCare but I think that covers service at 10K mile intervals. Is the oil change interval based on when the car was delivered to the dealer lot? My car had 35 miles on the odometer when I took delivery, but it may have been sitting on the dealer showroom or lot for at least a couple of months since Premium models are rare and not as popular as P+ and Prestige trims. Still, I can't imagine it sitting 4 months.

With 35 miles, the car was driven before delivery to you.. Either from a different dealer to yours or for test drives.. At any rate -- AudiCare doesnt have minimum mileages, so if you are due for the 1st maintenance (and one year would be, regardless of mileage) - it will cover it.

Probably means dealers PDI tech missed the step to set the oil change interval to 12 months after the In Service date; Presumably they should have, but probably also missed, setting the Service Inspection interval to 2 years from the In Service date as well.

I just wanted to provide an update on my 2021 S4. I made and appointment and took it in yesterday to have the first oil change done at about 5,500 miles (I took delivery of the car on March 13, 2021). It was covered by AudiCare, so I didn't have to pay anything. According to the Service Advisor, the clock starts from the PDI when the car is delivered to the dealership. So my car was probably in dealer showroom or storage lot for about 4 months, not surprising since it's a Premium trim which is rare and not as in-demand as P+ or Prestige trims.
