I've been seeing more and more posts on my local NextDoor that scumbags are targeting Audi's. They're breaking windows to access the glove compartment for a valet/emergency key in the glove compartment. I searched all over my glove compartment and haven't seen this key before. I drive a 2021 S4 and have heard of Q3's being targeted. Wondering if it's just limited to those models. Anyone know if our S4's come with that valet key or not?
Not sure if there is another key option or not, but for me the Valet key is the key fob with the mechanical key removed. Refer to Page 48 of the owners manual. You remove the mechanical key from the fob, press the button in the glove box to enable Valet mode, lock the glove box with the mechanical key and keeping it while giving the rest of the fob to the Valet attendant. They can drive the car but not open the glove box or boot/trunk of the car. Assumption is that all folding seats are also in their locked positions preventing entry from the interior of the car.
This is an issue with older Audis such as the B8 and misinformed owners. The B8 and Audis from that generation had an empty fob shell in the glove compartment and a plastic emergency key that you were supposed to keep separately. Then when needed that shell came apart and you put the plastic key inside of it to make it an emergency fob, so it could be inserted into the key slot to start the engine. There were and probably still are owners that for some reason think/thought the plastic emergency key should be kept together with the shell in the glove compartment. Thieves found out about it and started targeting the particular models in the hopes they come upon one from a clueless owner.
