Hi all

I have a 2018 S4 60k KM, recently my car has started making a very loud whirring/humming noise. The sound is very loud, coming from the engine bay, and is even audible from the cabin. It occurs while the car is idling, it also sort of changes to a whining sound as the car reaches higher RPM. When the car is driving it’s less audible but still there. Very noticeable at idle. It occurs even with the climate controls turned off. There’s a video I took from inside the cabin below. Any ideas?

I hear the engine, and I do not hear anything odd.

Are you set to "S" mode?
If so, the engine idle is automatically increase a bit when in that mode.

You can see that for yourself by pulling the gear level between S and D.
Sometimes, the same engine RPM increase happens when the AC is running.

If you can get a more isolated recording that would be better.

Also, I see that your dash vents are close. Is the HVAC system fan also off?
If not, then open the dash vents, and note if any of what you hear changes.

In my S4, when I don't have music turned on, I can hear some of the HVAC functions behind the dash.
It's not loud, but slightly noticeable when it's very quite in the car while stopped and engine idling.
