i loved all those replys saying "don't down shift into first." that is rediculous. i have a $40,000 car and i can't downshift into first? you guys must all live out in the burbs where you can start in 2nd gear rolling out of your driveway.
i live in downtown seattle; downshifting into first is a regularity. ever turned up a steep hill at 5mph in 2nd?! it's bog down city. i'm not bombing on my car over here. i won't let anyone drive any of my cars unless they know how to match revs and double clutch. not being able to downshift into first is rediculous. actually, make that reCOCKulous.

Just don't downshift into 1st if you're over ~7mph... unless you do some serious rev-matching and double clutch.
1st gear is meant for starts, of course. Getting into 1st ONCE YOU'VE STOPPED is a non-issue...
if you have problems with that, then your tranny is broken.

let's say the downshift to first would result in 2,500rpm. i have to rev it to about 4,000 in neutral to get a smooth drop into first. gut it's been like that since i got it, like i said.
hmmm. i miss my bimmer. i really like being able to go full throttle from a stop on the perennially wet streets of seattle. but man, this car just isn't as fun to drive.
will the M3 be available w/ 4drs and SMG 2?
