Default I gues you have a bad car........I don't have the problems you have....

Still sounds like you're not rev matching properly. Oh well....if you're not happy, you're not happy. Sell it. No sense in paying for something that pisses you off.

Default Actually, I thought that the reason it is difficult to downshift into first is to protect the engine

so that if you miss a gear, your engine doesn't blow up. The only time I would say you would really need to force it in is if there is an emergency and you need 1st to decelerate with no other choice available to you.

I probably do it and don't know what it's called.....What's double-clutching??

when you let out the clutch in N and put it back in before engaging gear

Default lets the layshaft spin up to speed.

Search on google for 'double clutch' and look at the first few hits :-)

Default I think what they are saying is don't downshift to first for engine braking,

what you are doing is always necessary to be in the powerband to accelerate from the rolling stop...

Default A basic racing downshifting technique that is coupled with braking. In a racing

car you must double-declutch because there are almost usually not synchros in the tranny. As for street cars, it is easier on the gearbox and internals to double declutch...
