I think you know my story...but I got pulled over for my exhaust on my Honda. The guy actually made a U-turn from the other side of a street "island" to pull me over at 11:30 at night. I swear, Irvine PD makes you feel like you can't go out later than 6:00 pm. They also make you feel like you're a criminal, rather than an honest, hard-working tax-payer following all the road-rules (well, most of them!).
The guy tells me that my exhaust is illegal, and I don't have a front plate (he let me off on that one)...so gave me a fix-a-ticket.
Get it fixed, and tried getting it signed off. Irvine PD says I couldn't get it signed off without a certified "referree". I make an appointment and take a whole day off work (commissioned income). I get to the referree, and the guy makes me pay $30 for a smog test. He finishes the test, telling me I didn't pass "visual" inspection due to my DC headers. Said the Carb # is for a 1992-1995 Honda Prelude, and not made for my car...thus I wouldn't pass visual. Sux to be me.
I call the courthouse, and tell them what had happened. They tell me that since I had already paid the $77 bail amount, I didn't even need to go to the referree..."case closed" is what they told me. I then called Irvine PD (obviously pissed), and they told me that I had to get my exhaust fixed. "I already did that". Oh, well, I guess whatever the court says is what you abide by. "Case closed".
Sucky thing is that the officer who pulled me over reassured me that it was a "fix-a-ticket". It was actually a "non-correctable violation" according to the courthouse (VC 27151), and that I had to come to court to resolve the issue.
Does this all make sense?......didn't think so. I didn't know what the hell to do, and each dept. says something different. Bottom line: I'm glad the modified exhaust for S4's aren't totally HUGE like ricer exhausts like the one I had on my Honda. The PD are much more likely to pull over a "ricer" car than a pristine Audi, and are more likely to give you a fix-a-ticket for a HUGE exhaust tip.
Welp...glad they didn't catch the Double K04 action under the hood, eh? =P
