Not to mention it's much easier to read through previous emails than search through and listen to past phone calls (assuming every phone call is recorded). So if a problem does arise, email conversations would be dramatically easier to deal with and refer back to. The written word tends to be much more persuasive in court when it comes to contract stuff. Although the transaction may not have to be written to be binding it surely helps.

Also recording every phone call would cost a lot of money in electronic storage compared to only using email.
