Default No, the audi OEM fluid is Castrol TAF-X which is a GL4/5 fluid. The VW 501.50

rating which is one of the requirements for an OEM fluid is basically asking for a GL-4 fluid with GL-5 protection without the corrosives.

Thus when selecting a gear oil, you want to find a GL4/5 fluid.

Castrol TAF-X is one,
Motul MotylGear 75w90 is another
Motul Gear 300 75w90
Royal Purple Max Gear 75w90
SF MTL-R 75w90

All of those are available in the US. Redline does not make a GL-4/5 fluid. MT-90 is a GL-4 thus you'll be losing the EP (extreme pressure) protection of a GL-5.

www.purems.com carries both Motuls, you just have to call for the Gear 300. The royal purple is way too thick @ 40deg cst. and users have reported cold shift issues at 70 deg F ambient. I've put 100 mi on my SF MTL-R so far and am loving the shift feel over stock.

As for my recommendation, go Motul. Easy to get, and I don't have to explain anything about it.

Default That was the Series 2000 gear oil.

I agree that didn't work out well in our transmissions. They stopped making that in favor of the 2 new products they have now MTG for transmissions and SVG severe gear for differentials.

Default Some proof for the disbelievers that Castrol TAF-X is the OEM gear fluid.

Don't feel bad . . . Lotus uses it as OE as well.
