Default '01 info, and me being annoyed

(Some of you have heard this story before, or at least the first part of it...)

Ordered an S4 sometime in February. Put a $1000 deposit on it. MSRP.
Dealer calls me in mid-april and tells me it's here.
Wrong car - automatic instead of stick.
Dealer does some checking and says he screwed up the order and can't find one that's set up the way I want it. Says he's ordered a 2001 model with the options I want and that it'll be here in late July.
Dealer calls me today and says that MSRP is now $1000 more for the same car and that I'll have to pay that if I want it.

And I guess I'm a little annoyed by that. Am I being unreasonable? Just wanted to get other people's take on the issue.

Other info he gave me, other than the $1000 increase in base price, is the fact that the warranty will now be 4 years instead of 3. For what that's worth...

Default You have a right to be mad . . . (m)

You have a right to expect the dealer to eat the $1000 difference especially after what they put you through.
I don't know about S4's where you live, but they are plentiful here in Long Island NY.

A local dealer offered $1200 off sticker on a 2000 S4 that would be arriving in stock in 2 weeks and that was without me even asking for a discount.
The least your dealer could do is take the $1000. off and with that, they are still making a nice profit.
Good luck ! ! !

Default It's his fault he (at least the dealership) should eat the additional cost.

Default In a similar boat...

Similar situation, only after having waited since Oct (!), just found out last week car was ordered and on the boat with wrong interior -- silver leather rather than alacantra (dealer error as well).

After much wailing, they are not charging me for the 2001 sport interior. (how noble of them...not) I hope the shiny mirrors don't make the car look too ricey.

I couldn't sustain the hissy fit long enough to push to also get $ off of MSRP. I can almost justify the add'l MSRP for the (hopefully) ESP and (hopefully) longer warranty.

Since you don't have the sport interior no charge vs. charge situation, though, I'd push hard to not get charged the extra MSRP $$. (They wouldn't even admit that MSRP was going to be more at my dealer...)

Esp being in the SF Bay Area, it was a pain to get any concessions, since they'll just take my (wrong) ordered car and sell it for >$3K over MSRP. Grr.

It's going to be a long summer (snif)

Default He should eat it

Especially considering the obscene (thats gotta be spelled wrong) profit he is going to be making. Audis have some of the best markup on the buissiness right now, so he can eat the difference and should really give you the car at invoice. I'd be in his face screaming by now.

Default Re: Where are you located?

Los Angeles area. Yes, they can easily turn around and sell the car I've got on order for MSRP or more, no problem. Grr.

Default Bottom line

The contract is on his side. Customer service an good taste on yours...

Your only contractual option is to cancel your order.

With the '01 I believe you get ESP and a longer warranty, which is worth some fraction of the $1000.

I might take this asa sign to find a new dealer who will be behind you when it really matters.
