Default 17 or 18 inch wheels?

I am looking to get new wheels. I will use my car on the track (but use street tires), and of course on the street. Since I live in NYC and drive through potholes in NY and NJ I am leaning towards 17's instead of 18's.

Price difference is minimal.

What do you suggest, 17's or 18's?

BTW I am getting the Flik Lex wheels.

18s. You'll always want them if you get 17s.

which ever one is wider, if you're taking it on the track.

Default Go bigger. B6 S4 comes from the factory w/18s stock.

Huge difference, visually, plus better handling w/lower profile tires. What are your questions?

Go for weight savings over size. Tire profile differences are overated. Look at F1 racers.

Default 18s...

Just installed 18s last night.
I live in North Jersey and commute to Upper East Side.
Get a set of strong 18s. The potholes in NYC are huge and deep. I just drive carefully and try to avoid them. IMO, 17s will not survive if you hit one of them.

Default He doesn't have to choose between weight savings and size....

if he's willing to spend some money. Stock 17 weighs near 27 pounds, right? I just ordered forged 19s that weigh considerably less. Will handle better with low profile tires, looks good, weighs less... I say again, what are your questions?

Any proof on lower profiles than 45s handling better?
