Default 18258 - Ignition has been switched on while transmission control module -J217- was disconnected.....

Wiring open circuit or short between engine and transmission control module. Incorrect or faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Kai, 2nd Google hit, answer was from PassatWorld forum, but it should apply.

Default Somebody didn't clear the codes after the ECU was reflashed. Happens if you have the key on

with the ECU in reflash mode.

Default Kai, did you turn the ignition off before completing a vag scan?

Go into your TCU and clear it... then the ECU. Should remain off unless you have an issue.

It doesn't show up on the Engine control module, only on the Auto Trans module
