I've had this happen, and still get it logged today (w/out CEL).
I battled this one for a while. Mine was different though, ECU/Instrument/ABS modules would complain about missing messaging from TCM.
Turns out I had a bad solder on my Tip Chip. HOWEVER - when I start up the car, every 50-100 starts the code may come back...it's like it takes a little too long on startup for the TCM to communicate with the rest of the world. I don't get CEL's anymore (it used to throw it into limp mode), but when I scan modules, I can see the code logged.
car drives fine, I'll wait for the TCM to fully go (if it ever will) before doing anything about it.
Last tidbit: I could trigger it myself when I had the cover off of the TCM. If I pushed down on the Tip chip just a bit, it would send it to limp mode....even after I got it back from getting fixed. I made sure the padding on the TCM cover that holds the chip from vibrating, isn't too thick, and that fixed it.
let me know if you have any questions...sounds real similar.
