I took the left side wheel bearing housing to a shop today and they removed the pinch bolt for $10. I was removing the other side tonight and thought I'd take a stab at removing that pinch bolt myself. Using the forum suggest of applying an impact hammer to the side of the housing where the pinch bolt passes though, then using an impact wrench to turn the bolt one way, then another, the bolt came out!! I couldn't believe it. Now I just need to install a wheel bearing, 8 control arms, two tie rod ends, remount the coilovers. raise the subframe, and get an alignment (phew). Who said Audi's were a pain to maintain? :P

weekend. Had help from a couple of friends. Did not do the wheel bearings though. One side took me 10 frickin hours and the other took me only 2. I guess you get the concept after you do it once.
Let me tell you, the pinch bolts, though a pain, were a breeze compared to screwing in the damn driver's side TRE. I had to contort myself underneath the car in such a way that I could grab the end of a jack handle which was sheathed into the end of a vise grip, then while bracing my legs in the wheel wells apply as much force as humanly possible onto the TRE. All the while, my buddy would align my wrench with a huge plumbers adjustable while bracing the tie rod with his foot. It was a rediculous sight, but we got the sucker in.

Melt the wax at both ends and in the middle pinch area. Heat housing and wax will wick down along the bolt. Use your back and forth impact technique and it will come right out. Simple.
