Default 2000 s4 - instrument cluster

I just purchased my s4 w/ 60K miles...
The computer like screen with the car info has a lot of line breaks. Does the whole cluster need to be changed? or do each of the screens come off individually? does anyone know how to fix? as it is VERY annoying. Thanks...

Default If it's under warranty take it in.

The entire cluster needs to be replaced IIRC.

no warranty.
Probably costs a good chunk of chang for a new one... probably best to leave it alone i guess.

Default It's not too bad, they do a swap...all the replacement clusters are rebuilds

so if you give them your core it won't be too unreasonable...prolly $400 ish.

Default Anyone know of GOOD extended warranty that I can buy?

I have heard some things about extended warranties, but some were good some were bad.

Are they worth it? anyone know of any companies?

Default Once upon a time I bought a cluster from Clair Parts...

though I didn't give them my core, cause I needed the cluster for experiments...I think w/o core I paid like $190~250 or something like that, but it was the version w/o the trip computer...those I'm sure are more expensive. I just know had I given them my cluster in exchange I'd have gotten back like 80 bux. Cluster shows up zeroed BTW...so either you put a special sticker inside the door well that says what miles were on the car before the swap or you have the dealer move forward the miles in the cluster to what they were when the cluster was swapped. It's stupid easy to swap the cluster...I'd do it myself...write down the miles go in (with a picture of the old cluster mileage maybe with a newspaper with date in frame for proof of date) and pay only to have the miles moved forward to match.

Regards,

James R.

Default www.clairparts.com I think...you'd have to call for a price

they tend to have reasonable prices on parts there...
