Longer bolts are probably to accomodate a thicker aftermarket rim, as long as the bolts don't stick out too far on the backside of the hub you are fine, better than being too short! Spacers would probably reduce the amount of thread that actually goes into the hub (bad situation)

Another question. My new bolts are 14mm and the stock ones are 12mm (I assume) is that going to make a difference or will I need spacers...?

The inside corner of both my front tires was shouldered and on one side the tread just separated today.
I was getting off Fwy, so scared the heck out of me (could've been a lot worse).

Have you eventually found out the cause of your presumed rubbing?


FYI, I have 2001 B5 S4 Avant, with Bilstein PSS9 coilover with Hartmann 18x8-18 ET35 wheels and Eagle F1 All Season 225/40/18.
In the past I had worn tie rod outer end which caused tire wobbling, but that was replaced and 4 wheels re-alighned. Alignment shop nor I saw any rubbing at that time.
