2001 S4 with blown turbo
just had a shade tree mechanic from craigslist change out my alternator and valve covers and some other odds and ends... the car is apr chipped. got it back and on the freeway, and sounded like a nasty boost leak and then came the white smoke... not sure how huge of boost leak this would have taken...
it's got 89k miles on it fresh rubber, newish clutch, valve covers, water pump, rebuilt tranny, and it just breaks my hear to get rid of it... how much can I expect to have this resolved? I'm in Tampa BTW...
Thanks all.

Labor is the biggest factor. Some shops will do it for 1k to 1.5k in labor. Other places like the dealer I went to your looking at 3.2k in labor. (they "misquoted me" out of around 2500 more than the estimate)

You got a mechanic off of craigslist?? lol come on man! lol
My best recommendation is to hit up your regional thread and offer free beer and a cook out to anyone willing to lend you an experienced hand..
Get a cheap engine hoist from harbor freight for like $60 and DIY. Its not that bad, Really.
You can prolly pick up a used set of ko3's dirt cheap. Realistically between beer, food, and turbo's, Id say $500. I would honestly suggest ko4's to a stage 3- at minimal but its all about how deep your pockets are.

2nd. Unless you can find a shop that you really like and they give you a good deal. Might as well invest in a decent set of tools (if you don't have any), a hoist, and some good shape used k04s and inlets and do what Duct said.
