Just purchased 2001 S4 - am assuming from your forum that this makes it a B5 platform?
Anyway have 2 switchblade / remotes that came with car. One remote works however the other did not have any batteries in it. Have replaced batteries but remote still does not function - are there instructions in manual for this or can anyone help - from what I've seen in Forums it seems to differ by year - am concerned will wipe out good remote if programmed incorrectly or can both remotes be programmed from "scratch" - thanks.....

and then using the key, lock or unlock the door within 1 minute. Says so in the owner's manual under the Remote section.

The best thing to do is wipe your car's memory and then reprogram the two remotes (this makes sure your car won't respond to old remotes that you don't have).
I don't have the links handy, but this procedure is discussed MANY times in the archives (I know, I just got a new car that had no remotes).
