shifting into 2nd gear has always been a problem ( upshifts and downshifts)...its takes a good half a second to get it in there...i have driven another s4 and its not as notchy
took it to the dealer and they said its 'normal notchiness'....they said if i insist on them taking apart the transmission and nothing is wrong they will charge me a couple thousand for labor!
please advise!

I've had a 2nd gear "notch" for 89,000miles...never takes 1/2 second to get it in gear though....

I never got to drive another S4 than my own .. I should one day to see if it is that much different .. 1st to 2nd sucks. Boooo to 1st to 2nd.

I ground my gears bad doing a WOT 2-3 shift that went 2-1 (ouch). Impossible to get into 2nd after that. Killed the Synchro and other tranny bits. The 2nd gear synchro has reared its ugly head many times on this board STFA.

BTW, dealer fixed it under warranty but it took 3 weeks to get my car back. Not cheap if out of warranty.

I eventually got locked out of second, they moved the shifter around, and all is good. Took them 2 tries. If you don't have a dealer that knows what they're doing, you're ****ed.

same thing happens to me, it is annoying, my tech is in the process of rebuilding my tranny

I've adjusted the shifter a couple times, but it seems to be a function of the syncros.

he can't even get it into second at all. He is now in the process of replacing the entire tranny.
