I was always amazed that Porsche had a 2 liter quad cam engine that made 180hp (90hp/liter) in street trim and redlined at 7500rpm in 1959. The Roller bearings race engines made even more power. Even by todays standards thats pretty healthy, especially when you consider this is in the carbureted world with point and condensor ignition systems.

the germans are still kicking zee americans *** when it comes to their own game, the benz makes 75.4 hp/liter while the new z06 makes 72.1hp/liter.
