Changing at 20k intervals could also be described as "better safe than sorry."
A lot of people report the belt and water pump looking fine at 60k intervals. Remember where this whole thing started - with the 1.8T guys (same as the coilpack scare). The 2.7T guys see stuff happening with the 1.8T guys and start panicking. Two completely different engines, IMO...

my waterpump went at 35k
its all a roll of the dice. I agree that 60k may be low, but how many of us will actually keep the car until 120k? not many. might as well change now and be done with it for the rest of the time he owns the car.

Mine was done at 55k, but I would've had to wait until like 90k otherwise.
Also, my oil temps are a little cooler now as compared to my buddy who has 40k on his and the original. Can't hurt.
