ABS module failure - repair/replacement question (I have a rough road sensor failure)

When driving I get 3 beeps, a constant ABS light and a flashing brake light. I ran my codes and I have a rough road sensor failure.
In do research on the code the consensus is that it's either from a failed wheel speed sensor/connection (either on a wheel or transmission) or it's from a failing ABS module.
It appears the ABS failure is probably the more common of the two. Now my question is ABS module failure <b>always an ABS ECU electrical failure?</b> I checked out some ABS rebuilders that were recommended on the, chiefly <a href="http://modulemaster.com/audiabsbsrepair.html">http://modulemaster.com/audiabsbsrepair.html</a> and it looks like most only rebuild the electronic module, not the pump hardware itself. Does the pump ever fail? Given that my error is a rough road sensor it's safe to say it has nothing to do with the pump hardware right?
Does anyone have any other ideas I should explore as to what is causing my problem? I plan on checking some connections today and if I don't find anything then I'm going to box up the ABS ECU and mail it off to Module Master.
Thank you,
Jacob

From the sounds of it, I would say there is a 98% chance that it's the ABS control unit (the electrical part). Your symptoms sound exactly like the issue I had.
